QUALIFICATIONS

1.   Brigadier General Foday Sahr is a Surgeon Specialist, a Medical Doctor and Surgeon General of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) Joint Medical Unit (JMU) 34 Military Hospital. The senior officer graduated with a BSc Ed Biological Science Njala University College in 1984. With his quest for education, Dr Sahr further attained the following qualifications: BSc Hon Health Sciences College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 1992, MB CH B Medicine and Surgery College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 1995, MSc Microbiology College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 2000, DSc Microbiology University of Science and Technology of China in 2006, and FWACP Lab Med in 2017.



TEACHING EXPERIENCE

2. In the teaching field, the Brigadier General has earned the following academic accolades: Lecturer in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 2000, Senior Lecturer in Medical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 2008, Associate Professor of Medical Microbiology College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 2012, and Professor of Medical Microbiology and Immunology College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone in 2016. Attended the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Primary School in Bo District, Southern Sierra Leone from 1968 – 1975, then Ahmadiya Muslim Secondary School Bo 1976 – 1977, then Government Secondary School for Boys, Magburaka 1978 – 1981. Further attended the Government Secondary School for Boys Koyeima form 1982 – 1983, then Christ the King College (CKC) 1983 – 1985. Fouray Bay College University of Sierra Leone 1988 -1992. Teacher Christ the King College (CKC) September, 1993 - May 1994

RESERCH AND PUBLICATIONS

3. His Research interests are in the fields of Malaria, HIV and Viral Hemorrhagic Fever.

PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES

4. His professional activities in past and present are as follows: from 2002 to 2003, he became National Coordinator Continuing Medical Education of the Defence Sector of Medical Services in Sierra Leone, and, again, in that same period, from 2002 to 2004, doubled as Member- Editorial Board, Journal of Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association. And from 2009 to present, he has served in various capacities, as: Co-Editor Sierra Leone Journal of Biomedical Research Group, Member National Health Commission, Member Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Council, Member National Laboratory Technical Working Group, and National Coordinator Continuing Medical Education of the Defence Sector.

UNIVERSITY/PUBLIC SERVICE

5. Brigadier General Doctor Sahr Foday, from 1996 to date, has attained the following positions in the university or public services: Member Sierra Leone Medical and Dental Association, Member National Polio Expert Committee, Member University Disciplinary Committee, Member College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences Curriculum Review Committee, Member of Senate University of Sierra Leone, Member Executive Committee of Senate University of Sierra Leone, and External Examiner Faculty of Environmental Sciences Njala University.

ADMINISTRATIVE EXPERIENCE

6. His administrative experience has been Head of Department of Microbiology College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone from 2007 to present, Dean Faculty of Basic Medical Science College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone from 2008 to 2012, Commanding Officer Joint Medical Unit - Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces from 2008 to 2016, Acting Provost College of Medicine and Allied Health Sciences University of Sierra Leone from 2012 to 2013, and from 2016 to date, the Surgeon General Joint Medical Unit- Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces.

AWARDS

7. He has also earned the following awards: All Walks of Life National Achievements Award- Military Officer of the Year 2009, Government of Sierra Leone Annual Award for Public service - President's Award for Diligent Service, National Award Commander of the Order of the Rokel (COR) in 2012, Service to West Africa Ebola Epidemic Award - University of Oxford in 2015, and Special National Ebola Award - Gold Medal in 2015,
