BACKGROUND

Air Commodore JAS Gbondo hailed from Freetown and attended the Juba Army Municipal School. He did his secondary education at the Services Secondary School and the Sierra Leone Grammar School. He was recruited into the Republic of Sierra Leone Military Forces (now Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF)) in August 1991 and was commissioned as an army infantry officer on 9 October 1992. Between October 1995 and October 1986, the young army officer attended the Technical Training Group, Nigerian Air Force Base, Kaduna, Nigeria, where he did air force training in aircraft armament. Upon his return to Sierra Leone, he and a few other RSLAF personnel became pioneers of the Air Wing.

MILITARY APPOINTMENTS HELD

Air Commodore JAS Gbondo has held several command and staff appointments, including Commander Air Wing, Military Spokesman, Ministry of Defence (MOD), as well as Staff Officer 1 Personnel MOD, and Chief Personnel Headquarters Joint Force Command.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from the University of Maryland, United State of America.

MILITARY & CIVIL TRAINING ATTENDED

Air Commodore JAS Gbondo has done several military courses including the Progressive Qualification Scheme 1 & 2, Basic Officers' Armament Maintenance Course, Peace Support Operations Course, Command and Staff Course (Junior Division) and National Defence College Course. The air officer is a pilot and a fellow of the National Defence College, Nigeria.

NATIONAL / INTERNATIONAL AWARDS

He has received several awards including the UN Medal for participation as military observer in South Sudan and the Sierra Leone Independence Award.

FAMILY STATUS

He is happily married and the union is blessed with a child.
