CHINESE MILITARY NAVAL SHIP EXPERTS VISIT MOD...

The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Wu Peng, the Commander of the Ark Peace Chinese Military Naval Ship, Rear Admiral Guan Bai Lin and team visited the Honourable Deputy Minister of Defence Captain (Retired) Abdul Rahman Kamara and the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lieutenant General John Edson Milton at the Ministry of Defence, Tower Hill, Freetown on Wednesday 20th September, 2017.



Welcoming the Team to the Ministry of Defence, the CDS expressed his profound thanks and appreciation to Ambassador Wu Peng and Rear Admiral Guan Bai Lin for such a gesture. He stated that the visit was not a surprise due to its early notice and long time planning. The CDS further reminisced on the relationship between the two countries and also described it as a solid and strong bond. Lieutenant General John E Milton applauded the Peoples Liberation Army and indicated that China's support was key when the RSLAF Navy was established in 1979 and has been supportive in providing training and equipment.


Informing the Honourable Ambassador Wu Peng about the current status of the Naval Wing, the CDS further expressed hope in looking forward to China's help in equipping the Naval Wing. He concluded that over the years, China has given countless training to Officers and men in the RSLAF which has added value to his personnel.

Meeting with the Honourable Deputy Minister of Defence, Rear Admiral Guan Bai Lin of the Chinese Military Naval Ship expressed satisfaction over the reception they had. He thanked the Deputy Minister of Defence and CDS for being patriotic. Rear Admiral Guan Bai Lin added that apart from the establishment of a Tropical Disease Center, the visit has also shown more concern over the wellbeing of soldiers. Ambassador Wu Peng further told the Deputy Minister of Defence that the Peoples Republic of China does not only treasure the relationship during the Ebola but planning to promote other interest areas. The visit was climaxed with the exchange of gifts from both countries.


    

In another development, the Deputy Minister of Defence and the Chief of Defence Staff with top senior officers of the RSLAF were treated to a dinner at the Ark Peace Chinese Military Naval Ship. This dinner created a platform for the medical experts in the ship to brief the Deputy Minister on their first day of medical service to the public. They informed the Deputy Minister of Defence and the CDS that 1,200 patients appeared for treatment, but only 20 admitted. They also informed the Deputy Minister of Defence and team that they had already done six success surgical operations and would do more late in the night. Ambassador Wu Peng also informed the Deputy Minister and entourage that there are plans ahead to equip the Jui Sierra Leone - China Friendship Hospital. He concluded that the Hospital is very symbolic to China and Sierra Leone relationship.
