MAJOR GENERAL SULLAY SESAY
JOINT FORCE COMMANDER OF THE REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE ARMED FORCES

BACKGROUND
Major General Sullay Ibrahim Sesay was born on 8 February 1969 in Maron village, Safrokoh Chiefdom, Port Loko District, now Karene District in the Northern Region of Sierra Leone. This town is the Chiefdom headquarters and locate approximately 32 miles from the Regional Headquarter town of Port Loko. He is a Temne by tribe and from a strong Muslim background.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
He attended the St. Andrews Primary School in Maron from 1976 to1983 and later the Ahmadiyya Muslim Secondary School,Freetown from 1983 to 1990 where he attained his GCE O and A levels. In later years while in the military he proceeded to Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone from 2005 to 2009 and graduated with a Bachelor of Social Science (Bsc) Honors in Economics.He attained Masters in International Affairs and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University, Kaduna, Nigeria 2010/2011 and Masters in Military Science, China 2014/2015.

RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
Dissertation: An empirical evaluation on external debt and economic growth – The case of Sierra Leone. Thesis: Security Sector Reform in Sierra Leone.

MILITARY TRAINING ATTENDED
Major General Sesay has attended various military courses in his career. Some of them include,
cadet training at the Benguema Training Centre from 01 March to 01 October 1990,
Junior Division Staff course at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Teshie, Accra, Ghana,
Staff Harmonization Course at Horton Academy from Apr to May 04,
Senior Division Staff and Command Course at Armed Forces Command and Staff College,
Jaji, Nigeria from Jul 2010 to Jul 2011,
African Strategic Course No 23 at Nasser Higher Military Academy, Cairo, Egypt
and Defense and Strategic Studies at National Defense University, Beijing from September 2014 to July 2015.

FAMILY
He is married to Mrs. Cecilia Sesay and are blessed with (3 children, a girl and 2 boys).

HOBBIES
Listening to international news, reading, playing squash and lawn tennis.
