MR ANDREW JONES FOFANAH – MOD
DEPUTY SECRETARY, POLICY AND PROCUREMENT
AT THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE.

BACKGROUND
Mr. Andrew Jones Fofanah was born on the 10th June, 1968 at Yoni Bana Hospital, Yoni Chiefdom, Tonkolili District.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
Mr. Fofanah attained his Primary School Education at the Tonkolili District Education Committee School 1 (TDEC) Magburaka, Tonkolili District, 1974 -81. He proceeded to the Government Secondary School for Boys, Magburaka (Boys School) from form one through six where he obtained his ordinary level and advance level certificate (1981 -1988). He taught at the Bishop Johnson Memorial Secondary School, Freetown (1989 -1991). He then proceeded to Fourah Bay College (1992 - 1996) and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics with Honours in sociology, Division Two upper. He holds a Masters Degree in Rural Development in 2010, from the Njala University. He also attended series of Courses in Economic Development Area and Trade facilitation for Sierra Leone in China, leadership programme on Public Private Partnership (PPP) in Kenya, Public Policy formation and Management, IPAM, Needs Assessment using the CENA approach, in Liberia, Public Sector Management, IPAM; etc.

OCCUPATIONAL HISTORY
Mr. Fofanah was recruitment as Administrative office cadet in the Sierra Leone Civil Service on 1st September 2001. After the six months orientation in six Ministries, he was posted to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Security in 2002. He was later posted to the MLGRD as Assistant District Officer, Kailahun (2002 - 2004). He was also posted to the Provincial Secretary's office, Bo as Assistant Secretary (2004 - 2005). He was assigned to the Pujehun District Council as Deputy Chief Administrator and Procurement Officer and acted as Chief Administrator upon the demise of the Chief Administrator (2005 - 2007). When the Councils recruited their Staff, he was posted to the Ministry of Works, Housing and Infrastructure, as Senior Assistant Secretary (2008 - 2013). When the District Offices were re-established, he was posted again to Pujehun District as District Officer (2013 - 2017). After his promotion in 2016, he was posted to the Ministry of Trade and Industry as Deputy Secretary (2017 - Sept. 2018). Mr. Fofanah is now posted to the Ministry of Defence as Deputy Secretary.
FAMILY
Finally, Mr. Fofanah is married with five children (two daughters and three sons).

Hobbies: Mr Fofanah's Hobbies include reading, football, listening to music, lawn tennis.
