BACKGROUND

Air Commodore Michael Sorieba Kamara was born in 1972 and completed his primary and secondary education in Freetown from 1978 to 1992. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) on 6 November 1993.


MILITARY APPOINTMENTS HELD
Air Commodore Kamara’s key appointments held include Commanding Officer Armed Forces Personnel Center (AFPC), Commanding Officer Joint Logistics Unit, Commandant Peace Mission Training Center (PMTC), Principal Staff Officer to the Chief of Defence Staff, RSLAF and the Commandant Armed Forces Training Center in Sierra Leone. Before Air Commodore Michael Kamara was promoted and appointed by His Excellency the President of Sierra Leone and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, he was the Director of Military Operations at the Ministry of Defence.


EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
He holds an MSc in Development Management, and a BSc (Honours) in Business Administration both from the Institute of Public Administration and Management, University of Sierra Leone, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Defence and Conflict Studies from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. Currently, he is a Fellow of the National Defence College, Nigeria.


MILITARY & CIVIL TRAINING ATTENDED
Air Commodore MS Kamara completed his Helicopter Engines and Airframe Course in Egypt. His other professional military courses include the Ammunition and Management Course in the People’s Republic of China, the Young Officers’ Logistic Course in Sierra Leone, and the Junior and Senior Staff Courses at the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Ghana. Others include the United Nations Staff Officer Course in Germany, International Humanitarian Law Course in Nigeria, and the Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education Course, USA.


NATIONAL / INTERNATIONAL AWARDS
Air Commodore Michael Kamara served with the United Nations Hybrid Mission in Darfur, Sudan as a Staff Officer Movement Control from 2008 to 2009 and earned the United Nations Peace Medal in UNAMID. Also, Air Commodore Michael Kamara earned the Golden Jubilee Medal in Sierra Leone. More importantly, Air Commodore Kamara has 3 research projects to his credit in the area of human resources, national security and development.
