On Friday 10th February 2023, the Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Defence, Major General CF Marah commissioned and handed over training facilities, tools and equipment provided by the Sierra Leone Skills Development Project on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff of RSLAF, Lieutenant General PK Lavahun. A project implemented by the Armed Forces Technical and Education College of the MoD/RSLAF.

The Armed Forces Technical and Education College (AFTEC) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, which was approved in 2018 by the Tertiary Education Commission of which it was affirmed to provide skills training for military personnel, their dependents and the general public. The project is intended to increase youth empowerment in the following sectors; fish processing-agro business, mining equipment maintenance, industrial tailoring, hospitality and tourism management, building and civil engineering (construction) maintenance among others.

Thus, the Chief of Staff –MoD commissioned the expansion of the Tailoring Department with tools and equipment and the Electrical Mechanical Engineering Training Class Room at Juba, Fish Choker Stove at RSLAF Maritime Headquarters-Murray Town, the Engineering Regiment Training Class Room and the expanded Hospitality and Tourism Building with at the Wilberforce Barracks.

The Chief of Staff-MoD in delivering his statement in all the locations encouraged the heads of those units to make good use of the facilities, tools and equipment to benefit the communities and to train RSLAF personnel that would be expert in their various fields of studies that could be of benefit to the RSLAF and the country. He concluded by thanking the Government of Sierra Leone for providing the Skills Development Fund to the Armed Forces Technical and Education College to implement the projects he commissioned. This he said is part of the Human Capital Development of His Excellency the President and Commander in Chief of the RSLAF Brigadier General (Retired) Dr Julius Maada Bio.
