THE CHIEF OF DEFENCE STAFF REPUBLIC OF SIERRA LEONE ARMED FORCES VISITS THE 2ND AND 5TH BRIGADES IN THE SOUTH AND EASTERN REGIONS OF SIERRA LEONE.......

 

SOLDIERS FAMILIES AND PUPILS WELCOMING CDS VISITS TO MOA BKS

 

Visiting troops to their respective deployments across the regions is a routine work of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Lieutenant General Peter K Lavahun. On the 23rd Nov 22, the CDS visited the East and Southern regions of Sierra Leone to roll out the vision of the RSLAF to serving personnel.


In his address to troops, he emphasized discipline as bedrock of any military. He implores all to remain disciplined, law-abiding and professional. He admonished them to stay away from politics and remain professional. That, serving personnel interested in politics can seek resignation and proceed to their political carrier as their human rights, but not when in the military.


The use and abuse of drugs, the CDS cautioned all serving personnel to stay away from drugs. He reiterated that, indulgence in drugs is not good for their health and causes them to be indiscipline which leads to unprofessionalism and so many vices. He warned that any serving personnel caught in possession of drugs or proven to have taken drugs shall be dealt with according to the law.

The CDS touched on the misuse of social media that misrepresents the image of the RSLAF.He said, unprofessionalism stems from making the wrong post on social media on classified documents, political comments and more. He warned all to stay away from such practices.


The CDS discussed on the issue of Peace Support Operations (PSO) that the Ministry of Defence is working closely with the Government of Sierra Leone to ensure that the PSO structure is reinstated. He is not assuring them that it will commence now but the Ministry of Defence is working assiduously to fix the structure that could trigger the deployment of troops on PSO.

Finally, the CDS took his time to clearly explain his vision of the RSLAF to troops with the acronym DAMP that means Diligent, Accountability, Mission-oriented deeply rooted in professionalism. With through explanation to troops on his vision, troops were able to grasp the concept. Those who were able to explain it clearly in all the districts visited were provided with a year University scholarship as a way of encouraging them.  In doing so, the CDS was able to convey his vision statement to all serving personnel across the RSLAF to deepen their professional outlook.
